Martha Gillis Delafield, LCSW

I offer sessions of individual psychotherapy in both of my offices. The sessions include whatever we agree might be helpful. We’ll talk about what it is you want, what you think is holding you back, and what the most effective path is to accomplishing it.
I’m interested in helping you identify what it is you want for your life, and then clearing the obstacles to your creating that life as quickly an d effectively as possible. What we experience as obstacles are often old distress patterns that we learned as children, and releasing those frees you up to use your natural gifts and passions to create the life that fits you now.
Most sessions are an hour, though sometimes we might agree to meet for 90 minutes or longer if we're covering a lot of ground or you're driving a long way.
I'm a Blue Cross / Blue Shield provider, so if you have them for insurance, then you would pay me your co-pay and I do the filing. It's helpful if you find out ahead of time what your co-pay is, because it can range widely.
If you have other kinds of insurance, then you pay me, I give you a form with all the necessary numbers on it, you file, and the insurance company pays you.
When I work with couples the sessions are usually 90 minutes.
Insurance may cover some or most of this.
I make some assumptions in my work with couples. One is that each person is 100% responsible for their part of the relationship (responses, thoughts, feelings, etc), not 50 percent., with the other person holding the other 50 percent. We are all responsible for our own experiences, which is where our freedom and power lie.
Another assumption is that the only possible solution to any problem is one where everyone wins. We are with the partners we're with for very important reasons, and understanding and appreciating those reasons is the gateway to healing. I've found over the years that couples often have very similar issues going on underneath the surface -- which is why people are attracted to each other in the first place -- but that it might not be apparent because they're coming at it from different directions or have different ways of responding to it. Discovering what your common issues are is very helpful, because then you can be real allies in healing.

I love doing groups. There is an alchemy in a group, especially when you’re using energy psychotherapy techniques, that makes the group energy greater than the sum of its individual parts. A lot happens, and it's often a lot of fun, too.
I've found that it's useful to do time-limited groups around particular issues -- check the Announcements page for upcoming groups or workshops. Feel free to email me with suggestions and requests.
Groups are for 90 -- 120 minutes. They're an economical way of getting help moving through issues that can be complicated and frustrating (like weight loss and other issues). Plus, you get to receive and offer support to some pretty wonderful people.
Payment for groups are made at the beginning of the month, for that month. Insurance may cover some or most of the fee.
